Jill Bouma

I am constantly inspired by the way Dr. Bouma fights the good fight. She spearheaded the campus campaign to get paid parental leave for new parents, even though she wouldn't benefit from it herself, because it was the right thing to do. She fought for domestic partner rights before that. When health insurance premiums for Berea employees spiked several years ago, making insurance untenable for many, she was one of the voices who fought for a sliding scale for those premiums based on income. Berea College as a whole is committed to social justice, but when our own policies threaten to stray from our mission, you can count on Jill to be one of the voices to lead us back. I admire her so much!
