About

The Digital Scholarship Department at Hutchins Library unites with academic institutions across the nation in order to commemorate and advocate for the study, observation, and celebration of the critical role of women throughout history. This is the first time that the legacies of women that have profoundly catalyzed Berea's history have been visualized in the ways seen on this site.

This retrospective view of the lives of trailblazing women that have impacted the history of Berea began with the creation of BEREApedia, of which the essays featured throughout this site are from. This online historical exhibition is centered on showcasing and immortalizing the achievements of 9 women who have undeniably impacted Berea and its history with their individual and collective contributions.

In addition, this exhibit also encourages students, faculty, and staff to think critically and acknowledge the outstanding work done by all women within our very campus today. Everyone has the opportunity to submit stories, images, and comments about women who have made a profound impact on them and deserve recognition for their arduous labor within Berea College's community. We encourage you to browse through submitted stories and comment on other's submissions while you explore the historic women featured on the site. you would like to submit a story, please click here.

The primary purpose of the Digital Scholarship unit is to encourage and support faculty and student use of digital tools and methods in research and learning through consultations, project support, workshops, one-on-one training, and curricular engagement. We facilitate the use of these tools and techniques to enrich the research, scholarship, and teaching of Berea faculty; and to equip Berea students with the critical literacies and technical skills necessary to enhance their liberal arts education within a 21st-century context. As part of Hutchins Library, we collaborate with students and faculty to develop digital literacy across multiple disciplines and modalities.
